Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan gained its independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991 and has grown ever since. With a population of 15 million, Kazakhstan is bordered by Russia, (North), China (East), Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan (South). The country's economy is struggling to transition from an agricultural base to a more industrial one.

Below are Kazakhstan's adoption regulations...

Ages of Children Available:

The children are, on average, three years of age and older. Most of the children are Asian and Middle Eastern, some Caucasian.

Parent's Age:

Requirements are flexible regarding parent's age and length of marriage.

Singles:

Single women are accepted.

Divorce:

No restrictions.

Children in One Family:

Single parents can adopt one child. Couples can adopt two children.

Travel Requirements:

Parents must travel to attend a two-week bonding period prior to court date ... Parents may leave after court appearance and make two trips ... First trip is 3-4 weeks for both parents ... One parent may return for the second trip (10 - 14 days) ... Approximately 2-3 weeks between trips ... If both parents stay, depending on the region, 6-8 weeks in country.
  Kazakhstan requires child (ren) to be registered with the government prior to your departure.

Post Placement Visits:

Six visits required for children under 3. Four visits for all others.

Waiting Time:

Individual cases will vary. Dossier submitted then Kazakhstan travel date issued. Families review children available for adoption in country.
