What is Baker Victory Services?
Baker Victory Services (BVS) is a non-profit charitable organization specializing in the behavioral health care of children and families. Located minutes from downtown Buffalo in Lackawanna, N.Y., BVS's 800 full- and part-time employees serve over 1,400 children and families daily and about 3,500 annually. BVS provides a number of diverse services assisting individuals with behavioral, developmental, and physical challenges. Residential, day treatment, and even general health care services are offered.

What Specific Care is Offered at BVS?

How is BVS Linked to Father Nelson Baker?
Directly. Father Baker did much for children during his 60 years of priesthood (1876 to 1936), including expanding the protectory (a sanctuary for those "inclined to truancy") for young boys and building the OLV Infant Home to care for abandoned infants (in 1908). Over time, the protectory took on a new name "Baker Hall", and offered counseling and much-needed care for youngsters in need and their families. In 1996, Baker Hall merged with the Infant Home, creating Baker Victory Services. BVS is the direct evolution of Father Baker's work. For more information on Father Nelson Henry Baker, click here.

Are There Still Infants in the Infant Home?
No. In the past, the OLV Infant Home offered a place where parents, who did not feel they could handle the burden of raising a child, could leave a child, knowing that he/she would receive the best of care. However, over the course of time, the number of adoptions and unwed teenage girls giving their babies up have declined drastically. The Infant Home now houses an Intermediate Care Facility for individuals with developmental disabilities and the Baker Victory Dental Center, which offers affordable dental services to the children in the care of BVS and the general community.
